You ever think you know what someone or something is about and then something happens to completely change your mind? That’s what this Michel Redde Majorum Pouilly-Fume 2011 did to me.

What first might come to mind with Sauvignon Blanc is the grassy, floral, citrussy, highly acidic nature of this aromatic varietal. It is rarely aged in oak, and this is to preserve those wonderful aromatic qualities. Pouilly-Fume is a region of the Loire valley, right next door to the ultra-famous Sancerre, and primarily grows Sauvignon Blanc. Wines from Pouilly-Fume are said to have a smoky quality, which perhaps lends itself to oak aging.
This wine is not what you expect when you think of Sauvy B. It’s lemony, mineraly, and darker in hue (more like a chardonnay). It has a roundness that I don’t associate with this varietal and a smoothness from the aging.

That’s why this wines as celebs is Jim Carrey. You know him from such classics as Ace Venture and Liar Liar. He’s funny, smart and you know what you're getting. But this, ladies and gents, is the Truman Show. WHO KNEW he had that kind of versatility? WHO KNEW this man could make you cry just as easily as make you laugh?

Location and excellent wine maker decisions play a huge part in letting this wine be the Truman Show of the Jim Carrey archives. Now go out and be delighted by the range of Sauvignon Blanc.
